Pranayama
A path to healing and freedom
I had been working on this book for 10 years when I became pregnant with my second baby.
My husband sat me down and said “our lives are already insanely busy. They’re abut to get busier. You need to either finish this book or accept that you likely never will.”
At first it felt so harsh, but then I realized how much I needed that nudge.
I kicked it into high gear and got the book as close to complete as I possibly could before the baby came.
I kept going when the baby came, typing one handed while the baby nursed, and at last made the final edit, tweaked the last graphic, pulled it all together and sent it off t print.
I am beyond thrilled to have this book out in the world. It is a true labor of love.
It’s not about being good
It’s about being real.
The core philosophy that we share in the book is that yoga is not about being good.
It’s about being real.
It’s a process of uncovering the layers of armor that we’ve built around ourselves in order to reclaim the essence of who we really are.
The goal is then to live from this truth of who we are, without being controlled by fear, desire, anger, lust or insecurities.
It’s a path to living a life without regret.
A note from Allison
Pranayama is the aspect of yoga that has offered me the most powerful personal growth and the most transformational breakthroughs.
I can honestly say that pranayama, as I’ve studied it with Yoganand Michael Carroll, has completely changed me and my life.
This book is based on his teachings, and includes his reflections.
Yoganand was the director of my yoga teaching training in 2003, and his wisdom captured me from the start.
Our philosophical discussion is rooted in the ancient Hatha Yoga texts, which we’ve worked hard to adapt for contemporary practitioners.
We ask what we can learn from the ancients in a way that inspires and enhances our yoga today.
We then share step-by-step instructions for practicing classical pranayama techniques.
I truly hope the book enriches your journey as much as creating it for you has enriched mine.
Love and blessings,
Allison
